About the tests

Human genetic diagnostics is a fast-developing area of modern medicine. By examining human genetic material, it helps identify certain inherited or genetically based conditions. Genetic tests can provide valuable information to clarify the background of some diseases, assess risks more accurately and, in some cases, support personalised medical decisions.

Genetic changes may be inherited, but they can also arise during life. The aim of the tests is therefore always matched to the clinical question. Genetic diagnosis may be suggested, for example, when certain inherited diseases are suspected, when a condition runs in the family, when symptoms are of unknown origin, or when there are particular clinical findings.

Modern human genetics can use a range of molecular and cytogenetic methods. The test may, for example, be a targeted analysis of specified gene variants, the testing of several genes at once, analysis of chromosome changes or, when there is a reason, broader genetic tests. The method used is chosen according to the patient's symptoms, their family and personal history, and the aim of the test.

One of the most important features of genetic tests is that their results can give information not only about the background of a condition that is already present, but in some cases can also point to future health risks, or to genetic factors that affect family members. For this reason, proper clinical interpretation of the results, and genetic counselling, can be a particularly important part of the diagnostic process.

Interpreting genetic results is always a complex task. A detected genetic variant can mean different things, and on its own it does not always mean disease, or that disease will certainly develop. The results therefore need to be read together with the clinical symptoms, the family history and the other test results.

At Sabjanics Medical Center, the aim of human genetic diagnostics is to support a more accurate diagnosis and well-founded medical decisions with modern testing options. We make sure the tests are tailored to the individual clinical question, and that the results, properly interpreted by specialists, help decide the next diagnostic, preventive or treatment steps.
