Overview
The aim of dietetic advice is not starving yourself, but creating a sustainable and enjoyable diet that supports the body’s own healing processes, optimises body weight and raises energy levels.
When should you see a dietitian?
A dietitian’s help is valuable for more than weight problems. Come and see us if any of the following conditions or goals apply to you:
- Metabolic conditions: For insulin resistance (IR), diabetes, raised uric acid or gout.
- Digestive complaints: Bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, food intolerances (e.g. lactose, gluten), food allergies or IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).
- Heart and circulation problems: High blood pressure, high cholesterol or triglycerides.
- Hormonal disorders: PCOS, an underactive or overactive thyroid.
- Diet for different life stages: During pregnancy and breastfeeding, or to ease the symptoms of menopause.
- Sports nutrition: If you want to maximise your physical performance with the right nutrient intake.
- Weight management: To lose or gain weight healthily, without the yo-yo effect.
The role of dietetics in recovery
Managing food intolerances We help you find your way among “free-from” foods so that your diet stays varied and complete despite the restrictions.
Anti-inflammatory diet In many chronic conditions (e.g. arthritis, endometriosis), well-chosen ingredients can help reduce inflammation.
Prevention and education We teach you how to read labels, choose ingredients well and use cooking methods that make food healthier for the whole family.
What happens at a dietetic consultation
The consultation starts with an in-depth conversation, in which we map out your current eating habits, daily routine, favourite foods and any dislikes.
The steps:
- Body measurements: Height, weight and, if needed, body composition analysis (muscle-to-fat ratio).
- Nutrition history: A joint review of the medical results you bring and a food diary kept beforehand.
- Goal setting: Setting realistic short- and long-term goals.
- Personalised advice: Practical tips, recipe ideas and suggestions for ingredient swaps.
A consultation usually lasts 50–60 minutes, followed by follow-up visits as needed to track your progress.
How should you prepare for the consultation?
We can work most effectively if you keep a food diary for 3-5 days before the appointment (writing down everything you eat and drink). Please also bring your most recent laboratory results and specialist diagnoses!
